B&M Retail is one of the UK’s leading variety retailers, continuing to grow at pace with an ambitious expansion strategy. We are looking for a Macro Space Planning Analyst to deliver data-led space planning that drives sales density, improves category performance, and enhances the customer experience across all store formats.
 
 Using sales, footfall, and productivity insights, you’ll translate commercial strategy into effective macro layouts and in-store space updates. Your work will ensure space decisions are analytically robust, customer-focused, and consistently implemented to maximise sales and profitability.
 
 This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with Commercial, Property, and Operations teams to shape store environments that truly perform.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Allocate space across all store formats using sales, footfall, and productivity insights.
  • Develop macro layouts, store blueprints, and space rules aligned to trading strategy.
  • Monitor space productivity KPIs and provide recommendations to improve sales density, category performance, and customer flow.
  • Use data to challenge and optimise space decisions for commercial and customer outcomes.
  • Deliver layouts for refits, relocations, and new store openings to brand and operational standards.
  • Support feasibility studies, layout approvals, and prototype trials with analytical insight.
  • Review post-opening performance and recommend improvements.
  • Capture and apply learnings from trials and post-implementation reviews.
  • Maintain accurate space, fixture, and layout data across systems, including timely updates.
  • Audit and validate data to ensure integrity and reliable reporting.
  • Ensure layouts are practical, efficient, and easy for stores to maintain.
  • Support clustering using sales, demographic, and catchment data to guide format variations.
  • Work cross-functionally to deliver consistent, executable space updates.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in space planning, retail analytics, or store layout within a multi-store retail environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to convert sales, footfall, and space productivity data into actionable layouts and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in space planning tools such as AutoCAD, Spaceman, or Revit, and strong Excel skills (BI tools desirable but not essential).
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of store operations and customer journey principles.
